Question Five: What environment/culture encourages collective learning and how is it created and sustained?
Groups One through Five
- People feel needed and valued
- and that there is a sense of purpose
- a collective/shared vision
- people feel safe to share and can make mistakes or not know answers
- a place to create both answers and questions
- How is it sustained?
- Shared responsibility and commitment for learning environment
- Encouragement to bring gifts to the table; encourage eath other
- leadership is developed to encourage and support new participation while retaining group knowledge and memory and creating dynamic vision
- Compelling to your learning style
- Atmosphere of valuing learning and questioning
- Acknowledging and honoreing self interest and preservation; balanced with interest of the whole
- Acknowledge differene in experience, knowledge, etc. (acknowledging power difference); how to equalize the playing field = safe learning environment
- Documentation and access to this information
- Regularity is important, security in knowing that this exists
- Relationship development - keeping the connection; by staff and by members
- Consistency of effort
- Check-in about product and outcome in addition to shared learning
- Humor, laughter
- Practice what we preach - balance
- What is collective learning?
- Physical enviroment - space, lighting, ventilation, etc.
- Culture of openness, respect and questioning
- Sustained? - collective learning or community of learners
- To sustain it, assume responsibility
- Sustainablity requires continous feedback to make sure we are maintaing appropriate environment and culture
- Sustainability that continues to shift; new ideas, etc. shifting of culture
- Replication of "cell splitting" by interest or locale, etc.
