Question Three: Who participates in learning communities and what are the expectations of individual participation?
Groups One through Five (Notes Not Distinguished)
Who
- Add to the end of the question - who want to maximize their learning and be deliberate and purposeful
- We all participate in avariety of LC's
- People who value a collaborative learning process, alternative and democratic process
- Depends on context - some are open, others closed, connected to need
- the "right" people - the "whole" system in the room
- Those who voluntarily choose to participate
- Those interested in process
- People interested in transformative results
- People who are told to by their funder
Expectations
- Respect
- Equality - everyone is a teacher/learner leave aside degrees - valuing all perspectives regardless of position/power
- Authentically being prepared to participate
- Listening (actively)
- Courage to speak up, diagree/agree
- A willingness to be vulnerable
- Be prepared to be a beginner, beginner's mind
- Be open to different ideas without judgement
- Surface our own assumptions
- Be prepared to learn something about ourselves
- Openness to change in perception, opinion etc.
- Taking responsibility for learning process
- Taking responsibility to get our own needs met
- Have fun, bring sense of humor, playfulness
- Commit to reflect on experience/content
- We will apply our learning
- confidentiality when needed
- Being willing to participate
- Behave according to our stated, shared values (practice what we preach)
- Commitment to participate through ups and downs of group process
- Commitment to the success of everyone in the group and the group itself
- Honesty
- People do what they say they are going to do
- Making and honoring commitments
- Shared responsibility for clarity of goals and purpose
- Share what you learn with others outside the community
- Make connections between learnings that are ccurring - take it to a higher level of synthesis
- The option of "passive" learning
- Bring all of who you are into the room
- Recognize how you are contributing, benefitting - reflective process and bringing that back to the group
