Question Two: What forms of learning community leadership have been most successful and what are the most important ingredients of strong leadership?
Group One
- Strong leadehip has clarity aobut vision and community - embraces it - collective spirit and understanding
- Strong leaderhip helps put community's vision into focus - clarity
- Balances participating with facilitating
- Understand the differences in role and task and authority
- Sharing - passing on
- Shared leadership and responsibility and outcome - advisory groups, etc.
- Listening, Curiosity, Flexibility, open
- Willingness and ability to suspend assumption
- Processes and tools are clear and accessible
Group Two
- New forms of leadership (geese?) - not using old methodologies for new forms
- Power
- Develop sense of trust within group
- Responsive to emerging needs of community
- Leaders as host of community
- Resources/support (financial or and communal) for process at service of community
- Needs and stories of community identified and incorporated
Group Three
- Facilitative leadership recognition of importance of healing - recognition of larger context in which we do the work
- To nourish
- Cultural sensitivity
- Humility and ability to work across boundaries
Group Four
- Need for different types of roles depending on type
- Important that person facilitating group be seen as in service of group
- Recongnize/acknowledge learning that ocurred - L.C. life cycle?
- Make succession plan explicit
Group Five
- Everyone has the ability to practice leadership
- Focus on what we want to accomplish and the wo will emerge
- Leadership should emerge from context of what trying to do
